My name’s Mary Catherine (you can call me M.C.), and this site is mostly about what I do with books.

I currently direct Granary Books as a co-owner, where I publish artists’ books, prepare and place literary archives at research institutions, and sell rare and unique books related to poetry and the arts. I design Granary Books publications, as well as other small press publications, broadsides, and ephemera.

I hold a PhD in English from The Graduate Center, CUNY, where I wrote a dissertation about poets’ libraries in post-World War Two America. I’ve taught at Brooklyn College, and worked at The New York Public Library in the Henry W. and Albert A. Berg Collection of English and American Literature, Columbia Libraries, and Graduate Center Digital Initiatives.

I have completed coursework in the Society of American Archivist (SAA) curriculum for arranging and describing archival collections using DACS, and have sold over 1,000 linear feet of archives to research institutions through my work at Granary Books. I am a graduate of Rare Book School coursework in twentieth century duplicating technologies and early modern cartography. I also am an alumna of CABS, the Colorado Antiquarian Bookselling Seminar, where I return to teach as a speciality dealer in 2026.

I am Software Carpentry Certified for teaching digital skills, and related to nothing in the world of books, I am also certified as a lifeguard and in first aid/CPR.

I am a board member of the Society for Textual Scholarship, as well as member of the Grolier Club, the Bibliographical Society of America (publications committee), and the Association for Book Art Education (CBAA). I also serve on the Jefferson Scholars Foundation selection committee for the New York City region. And I don’t surf well, but I do so enthusiastically.
